It’s Oh So Over

Well, I think I’ll stop pretending to myself that I’m going to ever get back into writing on this blog. I keep thinking that I’m going to “get back into it” and write some really good stuff. But it’s clear that’s just not going to happen. So much for that New Year’s resolution. This was a good experience though. I can really see that if you have information you want to get out to people on a regular basis that a blog is a great way to do it. And a good way to get a little feedback too. The biggest drawback is, of course, the time to write a posting. But I think if one was really dedicated and disciplined (obviously, I’m not) this could be a very beneficial tool. I thank those of you who joined in and struggled through with me on this little experiment – it’s been fun. If you’re not blogging already I hope that you give it a try sometime. If nothing else, it will give you a much greater appreciation of those bloggers who post regularly. Happy blogging!

A Real Blogger

In searching for Extension blogs I found the blog of a “real” blogger. Jim Langcuster at Alabama Cooperative Extension has a blog titled Extension Daily. And yes, it really is a daily. I contacted Jim to ask him a few questions. He must be a really great guy because he responded that same day with some very good information. I’m going to share our conversation with you.

BAD Blogging

Ok, I admit it – I’m a BAD blogger. Bad, bad, bad. What you have witnessed over the last couple of weeks is an example of what not to do when blogging. You DO NOT let your blog go for an extended time without an entry.

4-H Connections Online

Bob Peterson, 4-H Youth Development Agent for Pima County has created a new blog. His blog is titled 4-H Connections Online. The first entry posted states “The 4-H Executive Council and Extension 4-H Agents are looking forward to sharing information, providing time sensitive updates, and obtaining feedback about critical issues with our volunteers, members and sponsors.” Topics covered so far include events, donations, and equipment. Although people seem to be a bit shy, comments are being posted, so there is some interaction going on. This is a publicly accessible blog, so anyone may read and comment to it. I think it will be interesting to get comments from Bob in a few months as to how well he thinks the blog is working for his purposes. Perhaps this will encourage other 4-H agents to consider how a blog might work for them and their programs. Well done Bob!
