Four positions in camp counseling for summer 2005 are currently available. These positions are for the environmental science-based youth summer camp on the NAU Centennial Forest called the Forest Junior Forester Academy. The counselors will be staying overnight with campers Monday through Friday while camp is in session. In addition to the four, one week sessions of camp, there will be a week prior to camp for training and a week after camp for clean-up and tear down. In total this is a six week position.
Duties will include: supervising campers, staying overnight with campers, delivering lessons, leading games, projects and activities, along with some camp set-up and tear down.
Ideal candidates are students (adults over 18 years of age) in parks and recreation management, biology, education, forestry or environmental science with experience working at summer camps and/or working with kids. We are looking for both male and female counselors that are mature and dedicated to children and the environment. The camp location is within 15 minutes of Flagstaff, in the ponderosa pine forest that makes up the NAU Centennial Forest. A background check and fingerprinting will be conducted for all counselor candidates.
Desired qualifications: Experience working with kids in a camp or outdoor environment. Knowledge in the areas of forests, forestry, basic ecology, and environmental science. Map and compass, orienteering, camping experience. Enthusiasm and love for nature and the outdoors.
Duration: May 30-June 3 (one week of training), June 13-July 8 (four, one week sessions of camp, excluding Saturdays and Sundays) July 11-15 (post camp wrap-up) – in total this is a 6 week position
Salary: Room and board (all meals and snacks) plus $280/week stipend
