Continuing Ed. Class - Fossil Creek Restoration

Wade wishes he had his kayak.
Continuing Education - Master Naturalists need this to satisfy part of the annual 6 hour training requirement to achieve or maintain certification.
With the recent decommissioning of a dam on Fossil Creek, came the restoration of creek itself. Beginning at 1:30 on Thursday March 3rd, Chuck Benedict, Pam Sponholtz and Alan Haden, all representing different, but cooperative agencies/academia will be on hand to present on the challenges, successes and sorrows of the restoration work on one of Arizona's true riparian jewels.

If you would like to acquire some background knowledge of Fossil Creek Restoration efforts and the closure of the Childs-Irving Hydropower Decommissioning, go to this Forest Service article. Another good description of the restoration project and goals is this description of NAU's participation.
Members of the classes from 2003 and 2004 are encouraged to attend. It will complement the curriculum for next years program, which will take on more of a watershed face.

I will be handing out Master Naturalist certificates to 2003 class members that completed the 40 hour volunteer requirement. In addition, 2003 qualifying members will receive an embroidered Master Naturalist fleece vest as part of the day's agenda.

We will also discuss potential dates for a highway clean-up/weed pull. At this writing, we are hoping for a date in April.
