
What follows is a description of a job opening for a naturalist at the Navajo Army Depot at Bellemont, AZ, sent to us by The Nature Conservancy. This "internship" is with the State of Arizona Department of Emergency and Military Affairs (AZ DEMA), not The Nature Conservancy. Deadline for application is 15 April.
Job Title: Natural Resources Intern
Description of Duties: Responsibilities include completion of field work and administrative functions related to a natural resources management program; participation in forestry marking- crew operations and in monitoring logging-contractor operations; involvement in the prescribed fire program; assisting in field monitoring of a diverse group of natural resources, including ongoing surveys for Mexican spotted owls, bald eagles, wild turkeys, pronghorn, elk, and bats; GPS data collection and GIS data analyses; editing of scientific and NEPA documents. Responsible for data entry and other administrative functions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of natural resource monitoring techniques. Knowledge of operational forestry techniques. Ability to complete the NWCG wildland firefighter pack test. Ability to become proficient with the ArcGIS computer package. Knowledge of computer spreadsheet and database programs. Scientific writing skills. Organizational and administrative skills.
Desired Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field (e.g. Biology, Forestry, Wildlife Management). Excellent computer skills.
Requirements: Valid driver’s license.
Location: Camp Navajo, Bellemont, AZ, (12 miles west of Flagstaff)
Compensation: $12.05/hr plus benefits.
Duration: July 1, 2005 – July 1, 2006, renewable for limited term thereafter.
