Hart Prairie Preserve Naturalist Training

Every year in May, The Nature Conservancy (TNC) offers a special two-day course in Hart Prairie Ecology. Graduates of our course become volunteer nature hike leaders at Hart Prairie Preserve.

Nature hikes take place every Wednesday and Sunday, at 10 a.m., from June through mid-October. TNC suggests that Naturalists sign on to conduct tours twice a month, but they are completely flexible about this. Trainees can sign up to lead tours immediately, or they can sign on to "tailgate" with other tour guides until they feel comfortable leading. Seasoned leaders also do this frequently to compare notes and learn new information. An on-line SignUp Schedule is posted on this AZ Master Naturalist Blog on the right-side column under the category titled "Hart Prairie Tour Guide SignUps". (Tour signups start after 22 May training.)

The training course includes an evening session, where students learn about the ecology, hydrology, geology, and history of the Hart Prairie area and a field session along our nature trail at the preserve.
