Preparing for the Release of Biological Weed Controls

In June, Coconino Forest Botanist Laura Moser consulted with Coconino Extension Service Weed Management Area Coordinator Wade Albrecht to establish a baseline transect near the USGS Astrogeology Lab for the monitoring program that will follow the release of insects to control weeds.

Extension Service Weed Management Area Coordinator Wade Albrecht marks a 'quadrat' location along the transect prior to counting plants. This is part of the baseline established prior to releasing insect biological control agents for weeds. This set of locations will be monitored for several years to detect any changes, expected or otherwise.
