Getting an invasive or non-native plant onto Arizona's Noxious Weed list for regulation and control is rediculously difficult. So the listing of Buffelgrass, Cenchrus cilarius, is remarkable. It took a huge and devastating series of wildfires to get this much recognition- Skh

If the word hasn't reached you already, you'll be happy to know that buffelgrass is now formally on the Noxious Weed List for Arizona. Although buffelgrass has enjoyed the legal benefits of being listed since early this spring, it wasn't until now that the process has been finalized. The list was officially amended at the Governor's Rulemaking and Review Committee meeting on Dec 6, 2005, where the committee approved the amendment unanimously. No opposition was experienced at the meeting, and we were told by Dept of Agriculture staff that there had been overwhelming public support for the listing. Thanks to everyone involved-this has been a very positive development for the fight against invasive species in Arizona!
