Master Naturalists!
The Black-footed Ferret Project has a daytime volunteer opportunity on February 25th and 26th. This event is for the early birds, instead of the night owls. As you may know, we are building new pens for our captive black-footed ferrets and need some help modifying the pens.

We need volunteers for one or both days to help “ferret-proof” our new pens. We will secure the netting that keeps raptors from preying on our captive ferrets. We will install hot wire to deter the ferrets from climbing out of the pens and install sheet metal to make a slick surface so the ferrets will be unable to climb out and escape. Finally, we need a few strong backs to dig holes and bury the nest boxes.

You will also have a chance to see the black-footed ferrets in the existing pens. Black-footed ferrets remain one of the rarest North American mammals. If you are interested in attending or have any questions about the details listed below, please send me an e-mail. Please respond as soon as you can, as space is limited.

Details:

Arrive at the field Station* at 7:30AM. From here, we will drive out to the new pens and begin the modifications. Bring multiple layers of clothing because it is chilly in February. Bring your lunch and beverages with you. After we have finished working on the new pens, we will drive over to our old pens to look at the captive ferrets.

Directions to Field Station:
*From Kingman: Take I-40 east to exit 123. Make a left off the exit, heading west on Route 66. As you come into Seligman, the road will widen into 2 lanes each direction. Make a right onto Floyd Street (there is a blue library sign pointing right onto this road). Go one block and make right onto Picacho. The Field Station is the last house on the right where the road dead-ends.

Thank you for your continued interest in The Black-footed Ferret Project!
