Geospatial Extension Network Added to Weed Resources

NGTEN logoAZ GTEN logo
The National Geospatial Technology Extension Network, currently including Arizona and 13 other states, has been added to the Weed Management Resources links section of our blog. Or click here to view this comprehensive website full of tutorials, background information, training packages, and many software and even printable(!!) tools.

The Arizona section includes links to the same references and tools. To find the Geospatial Toolkit, a low-cost GPS receiver/PDA combo for mapping things like weed colonies or erosion zones, click on Resources, then Cool Tools.

The mission of this extension network is to produce earth science and geographic technology tools and applications, and train people to use them. Each participating state has a specialist who acts as a knowledge

broker, or conduit between research, applications developers, and users in the field. In short, they bring GIS (Geographic Information Systems), GPS (Global Positioning Systems), and SDSS (Spatial Decision Support Systems) down to field users, suggesting uses and applications to real problems, and providing tools and training to accomplish the adoption of these tools. They also promote the use of standardized data bases and formats, to encourage data sharing and synergies between field organizations and data maintenance organizations or clearinghouses.
