Hikes, Hikes & More Hikes

This Saturday the intepretive partnership will lead a
Fatman's Loop hike from 8 to 10:30 am. An enjoyable 2.4-mile hike of
moderate difficulty with 600 feet of elevation change. As always,
bring water and wear sturdy shoes. Parking area is across from the
east Flag mall.

We should also probably class the Sunday Inner Basin hike as
moderately difficult because of the elevation, 4-mile distance, and
800-foot elevation change.

We missed listing the Old Caves Pueblo hike on Sunday, August 20, 8
am to 10:30 am.
Join an interpretive ranger for a look at the last
occupied local site of the ancient sinagua culture. Moderate
difficulty, one-mile round trip with a 500-foot elevation change. As
always, water and sturdy shoes. Parking area: go north on 89 about 8
miles to Silver Saddle Rd. Go right a half mile on Silver Saddle to
the parking area on the left.

On Wednesday, August 23, Jane Jackson will lead another fascinating
tree and plant walk in Hart Prairie.
Finish with a reduced-price lift
ride to the 11,500 level. Drive 7 miles north of town to the Snowbowl
Road and another 7 miles up the mountain. Meet at the uppermost
Snowbowl parking lot beyond the pavement. Bring water and good shoes
and definitely watch the weather.

August 26, we are leading an easy Dairy Springs one-hour walk on the
loop trail. Meet at the Dairy Springs Amphitheater at 3 pm. Twenty
miles south on Lake Mary Road to the Forest Road 90 intersection.
Turn right and drive 3.5 miles to the Montezuma Lodge turnoff. Drive
0.6 miles to the trailhead.
