The Hart Prairie Preserve season had a strong kickoff during the weekend of 19-20 May, with a volunteer weekend (actually most of three days) and the training and refresher for the summer tour guides. This was the first field event with new NAZ Operations Manager Neil Chapman running th show. It was the first big weekend for the new on-site caretakers, Doug and Diane Iverson, as well.

Ron Bauman, another Master Naturalist turned TNC employee, was straw-boss for the weekend volunteers who accomplished a stack of jobs critical to the new season, especially those related to fire fuels reduction and erosion control.
Hart Prairie is always the star, and it is in full summer swing as far as the floral and faunal inhabitants are concerned. There are still extensive snow fields on the mountain above. Birding is already keen, and flowers and insects abound. If you would like to be a part of the fun, contact Neil at 928.774.8892, or nchapman@tnc.org.
