CEU and Volunteer Hours
At the July meeting of Master Naturalist/Watershed Stewards, we had some discussion about the requirements for continued status. The following is a summary is based on information available in the BLOG archives under A. Blog & Class Syllabus. The Arizona Master Naturalist/Watershed Steward program requires 6 hours or units of Continuing Education Credits (CEU) annually to maintain certification. The yearly volunteer service requirement is 40 hours service in the first year and 20 hours per year thereafter to maintain your certification status.
Qualifying CEU opportunities are:
Related to one of the topics addressed in class: noxious weeds, ethnobotany/ethnoecology, ornithology, wildlife habitat and conservation, urban wildlife, climatology, Northern Arizona weather, soils, geology of Northern Arizona, fire ecology, interpretation techniques, stream processes and riparian ecosystems, water quality, aquatic ecology, environmental conflict resolution.
From the Master Gardener program: topics Native Plant Botany, Composting, Native Soils, Using Native Plants in Landscaping.
From the professional community: AZGFD Wildlife Workshops and the 2007 - 2008 Sustainable Living Lecture series automatically qualify.
From the academic community (only if you are not seeking a degree): courses in Sustainable Environments, Quaternary Studies, Biology, Geography, Wildlife Management, Forestry and related sciences.
Your personal presentation, facilitation or organization of a natural resources class, conference, field event, meeting or workshop.
Docent or interpreter training, but only up to a max of 3 hours for any one training course or sequence.
Please note: The talk, lecture, event, is not something you are otherwise required to do as part of either degree-seeking enrollment in a school, or paid employment.
Always feel free to ask. We want to be as open as possible to the many opportunities available!
