National Landscape Conservation System
Established by the Secretary of the Interior in 2000, the Bureau of Land Management’s National Landscape Conservation System (NLCS) protects 26-million-acres of the West’s wildest natural lands and water systems.

These crown jewels of recreational opportunity, critical wildlife habitat, clean water and wilderness areas are in need of your assistance. A bill that would provide congressional recognition for the NLCS (H.R. 2016) will be voted on March 12. This bill will ensure the permanent protection of these lands and provide unity to a system made up of disparate national monuments, wild and scenic rivers, wilderness study areas and other conservation units.
