Dr. Char Miller, award-winning author of Gifford Pinchot and the Making of Modern Environmentalism, will be presenting Thursday, February 3, 7:00 pm at Cline Library Assembly Hall on the Northern Arizona University campus in Flagstaff. This special presentation is free and is sponsored by the Coconino National Forest and Rocky Mountain Research Station – Flagstaff Lab of the USDA Forest Service, and co-hosted by the NAU School of Forestry and Ecological Restoration Institute.
Dr. Char Miller reveals a far more complicated and influential figure of Mr. Pinchot than has generally been recognized. His presentation offers an intimate retelling of the life of Gifford Pinchot, father of forestry and leader of the environmental movement. Miller’s Centennial Road Tour is intended to help spread the word about the agency’s origins and how its founder and first chief helped shape the American conservation movement of the early 1900’s. Dr. Miller is also featured in the documentary “The Greatest Good,” a historical account of the US Forest Service, which will be shown in Flagstaff later this year. Copies of his book will be available for purchase and Dr. Miller will be available to sign copies at his appearance February 3.
