Olivia White Hospice Garden Project
This week we had two days working in the garden. Some of our regular crew came to get things started . On Thursday Al Katte returned to help us move some roses, plant a shrub and get our fountain up and running. He also took home a tire from one of our wheel barrels that was flattened on the last workday. Karen Kent came on Thursday to get the compost up and running and helped with moving roses and planting. I spent my time watering the back garden and reconnecting some of the drip lines severed over the winter.
On our first Saturday in the the garden for 2008 Cynthia and Al Katte returned to finish some repairs and continue deadheading and cleaning the garden. My Mom, Elsie Ellis, cleaned the sun porch, watered the back garden, cleaned and filled bird baths and swept the walkways. I spent my time getting the standing and sitting beds ready for planting (some new soil and Earth Magic/Protein Crumblies) and continuing to repair the drip lines. Leslie Penick came and picked up some large trash to haul to the dump.

The best way to garden is to put on a wide-brimmed straw hat and some old clothes. And with a hoe in one hand and a cold drink in the other, tell somebody else where to dig. - Texas Bix Bender, Don't Throw in the Trowel
