Olivia White Hospice Home Garden Project

Norm Erickson's half-circle bed in front of the home freshly weeded. Photo by Loni Shapiro 7/08.

On Thursday we had a very large crew working throughout the garden. Karen Kent worked on compost and deadheading many lamb's ear that were waterlogged from the recent rains. She and David Hockman also worked on our pathway on the north end of the home. David and Gus Delgadillo leveled one of our birdbaths and installed a new trellis for our virginia creeper. Gus also did his usual filling of the bird baths and feeders. Elsie Ellis watered some areas that don't get much rain, cleaned the sun room and swept. Linda Guarino planted a few perennials and helped weeding. Marcia Lamkin, Nancy Palmer, Sara Clancy, Colleen Barnhardt and Kay Clark (a new MG volunteer) continued to weed Norm Erickson's beds in his absence. Linda joined them when she finished her planting. Peggy Scurlock and her daughter Chella came and weeded the far south beds. The ragweed is beginning to turn to seed so timing for weeding takes on more urgency. We seem to have more toadflax on the property so we are requesting a noxious weed pull on July 26th our regular monthly Saturday workday. I spent my time weeding, cutting lettuce and kale for the house, and making a run to pick up some cinder blocks for our pathway.

A representative from the Native Plant Society came and took photos for our entry into their competition.

Joe Harte came by on Friday and did a little more pruning on some of our trees and watered Norm's beds.
