Olivia White Hospice Garden Project
After last Saturday's hard frost things were looking pretty sad in the gardens. The season ended quickly. There are not many flowers still blooming.
On Thursday we had our regular crew (Leslie Penick, Karen Kent, Joe Harte, Nancy Palmer, Marcia Lamkin and Crys Wells) working on garden clean up for the season. We spent time deadheading, watering (the drip was turned off last Friday because of impending frost), cleaning and putting away hardscape (statues, birdhouses, ceramic pots and benches), and mulching for the winter. Karen spent time trying to find room in the compost for all our deadheaded materials.
New in the garden:
The official arrival of fall and the first hard frost. The virginia creeper red leaves are gone along with many others.

Went out like beauty from a face."

Come join us for our last month in the garden for 2008. Still on the agenda are:
Mulching some parts in the garden
Working on a design for the rock garden
Putting away hardscape for the season
Deadheading some perennials
Planting some fall bulbs
Staining some benches ?
Weeding
We will be in the garden every Thursday Morning through October from 8-12pm weather permitting. We have one more Saturday workday scheduled on Oct. 25 from 9-12pm. Come with a hat and sun screen and any tools you like to use. Park in the First Cogregational Church lot on Turquoise.
We will meet monthly during the winter, probably beginning in January, to plant for next year and for some of our garden crafts (repairing birdhouses and garden hats, making bookmarks and/or cards from pressed flowers). If you want to join us let me know and I will add you to the e-mail list.
Thanks,
Loni Shapiro
