A monthly Green Building Lecture Series and networking opportunity!

The 2009 series features presentations by a variety of experts and professionals in the green building industry. While the focus will be on providing local information and support for northern Arizona businesses and community members, the series will also include presentations from national leaders throughout the broad field of sustainable development. As a fun local twist, each event will begin with a ten minute presentation by a local green homeowner highlighting the green aspects of their home. The series is free and open to the public and is a great opportunity to meet like -minded individuals and learn more about building green! Unless noted otherwise, the monthly lecture series will take place every second Thursday of the month starting at 5:30 p.m. at Coconino Community College in the Common's area. For more information and questions please contact Holly Jaleski at (928) 286-7920 or Amanda Acheson at (928) 679-8853

Although these lectures are not specific to high elevation gardening, some will address colletion of rainwater for potable and non-potable water needs. In addition, most gardeners are also interested in sustainable living ideas.

Thanks,
Loni Shapiro

The 2009 February-May Line-Up Includes:
Thursday, February 12th "The International Energy Conservation Code" and "Green Building." Join Coconino County's Building Official, John Farnol and the City of Flagstaff's Building Official, Ed Larsen as they present on the newly adopted 2006 International Energy Conservation Code requirements. They will also provide an overview of code requirements in regards to green building methods and will be able to address general code requirement questions from the audience. By adopting the new Energy Codes the City of Flagstaff and Coconino County have raised the standards of building construction for all buildings. Come learn how these new standards can help you!

Thursday, March 12th "Energy Modeling." Alan Francis will present on energy modeling and how these types of computer programs can improve your home's energy efficiency by assessing the energy use of the building and helping to optimize systems during the design phase in new buildings.

Thursday, April 9th "Lessons Learned." Homeowners and owner/builders will share their green building experiences. They will reflect on the aspects of their homes that they would do differently and reveal first-hand tips on the best remodeling and energy efficiency strategies. We encourage people to bring their questions and experiences to this panel discussion.

Thursday, May 14th - "Suppliers of Green Building Products." Local businesses who supply green building materials will discuss their products and how you can use them in your new or existing home. This is a great opportunity to find out what local stores sell the green products you're looking for without having to travel all over town!
