Xeriscape Conference in Albuquerque - Part 4
At the Xeriscape Conference in Albuquerque the last speakers were a group of local and national people who are involved in getting people in their communities to buy local food. One of those speakers was Roger Doiron who is the founder and director of Kitchen Gardens International, a non profit network of more than 6500 individuals from 100 countries who take a hands-on approach to "relocalizing" food supplies. He spent his time talking about a project that he and several others have been working on since last fall. The project is to bring a "Victory Garden" to the White House. His efforts began even before we knew who the President would be. A couple of weeks ago he actually got an interview with Michelle Obama. As a result of his efforts, Alice Waters from the bay area, and Michael Pollen the author, the White House will break ground today on a Victory Garden on the south lawn of the White House. I am including two links if you want to read more. One is to Eat the View the site for encouraging the White House to participate and the other to an AP article about the ground breaking. You will have to put these into your browser as the link feature on this site is not working.
