Olivia White Hospice Home Project Workday 7/09/09

On Thursday, we again had a large crew working in the garden. Laura Davis worked on finishing a new part of the Tea Garden. Laura found something interesting while cleaning the garden. A friendly snake left his old skin behind.

Nancy Palmer worked on sprucing up the Faerie Garden for Saturday's judging for the Native Plant and Zeriscape Contest. She also filled all our bird feeders. Linda Guarino did some drip repairs and with Carol Lease tagged all our drip lines for easier identification. Karen Kent created another rock area at the driveway entrance, planted an agave, and worked on the roses which are filled with aphids this year. Leslie Penick weeded under our aspen grove. Judy Chaddock harvested lavender, spread mulch and did some weeding. Barb Phillips watered the back gardens thoroughly. I managed to replace a few plants in pots, cleaned all the birdbaths, and stored the lavender for drying.

On our break today we had our usual variety of treats - strawberries, muffins and Karen brought some deviled eggs. We never lack something to fill us up for the last work effort until noon.

On Saturday we hosted some judges from the Native Plant and Xeriscape Contest. They came to look at our Faerie and Tea Gardens. Since we were the last visit we provided homemade teas (lemon balm and mint) and cookies (lavender/lemon). Today was also the anniversary of Olivia White's death 7/11/07 to whom we honor with our garden.

New plantings:
Tea Garden plants added - pansy
Rock Garden - agave
Faerie Garden - straw flowers
New plantings for this season are over until some fall sales of perennials.

New blooms:
Many more day lilies, shasta daisy and asiatic lilies.
One of the favorite shrubs in the garden is a native - Mt. Spray - and it is particularly beautiful this year after the winter snow and spring rains.

Water and snacks are provided. Parking is not allowed at the home. Park at the 1st Congregation Church on Turquoise just past Switzer Canyon Drive.
