iFlick Challenge focuses on Campus Rec

Responding to overwhelming student demand, the UA will host its first-ever podcast competition, the iFlick Podcast Challenge, this fall.

Sponsored by the Department of Campus Recreation, campus Bookstore and OSCR, the contest will allow budding student film directors to sharpen their skills by producing — individually or on teams — a short podcast highlighting Campus Rec and its activities.

Registration for the contest begins September 3 and culminates in an awards ceremony during the Bookstore’s October 4 Tech Fair.

Student teams will have the week of September 12-18 to conceptualize, produce and edit their masterpieces. OSCR will support their efforts by providing a series of workshops on producing podcasts and using digital video equipment and programs such as iMovie and iDVD. For that week only, OSCR will also dedicate a portion of its large arsenal of video and sound equipment exclusively to iFlick participants.

A three-member panel of judges will evaluate the entries and select up to 15 finalists, whose submissions will be available for online viewing and voting by UA NetID holders. The first, second and third place winners, as determined by the online vote, will receive accolades and terrific prizes such as iPod nanos and bookstore gift certificates. Campus Rec will use the submitted films in the coming year as part of their overall marketing effort.

Details are still evolving. Catch the latest updates at iflick.arizona.edu.
