New Louise Foucar Artifact Added

|

Louise Foucar's 1903 Tucson Street Railway stock certificate

Patricia Stephenson shared another interesting artifact with us yesterday. It is Louise Foucar's Tucson Street Railway stock certificate. You will see that she purchased 3 shares for $100. Certainly, a sizable investment for 1903 and one that would fit nicely with her plans to develop housing in the area. She purchased the shares in October 1903, the same month that the Santa Catalina Apartments were finished.

See both the front and back of the stock certificate, which is in excellent condition, on The University Neighborhood website's "A New Gate and a New Trolley, 1906" page.

The first two digital stories feature Patricia Stephenson talking about her memories of Louise Foucar Marshall sync'ed with photographs. As we add more content from community members, we plan to add more and more digital stories. Go to Through Our Parents' Eyes homepage and look down the right hand margin for the button to Digital Stories.

Opportunities for The Promise of Gold Mountain

As a follow-up to the event at the Tucson Chinese Cultural Center, I met with board member Peter Chan last night. At some time after Chinese New Year, Peter will speak with TCCC members about contributing to the Promise of Gold Mountain. This is a great opportunity to add outstanding content to the website and to develop new digital stories. Stay tuned!

Trek of the Seven Sisters

Trek booklet cover imageI've said for year's that the diary of Sister Monica Corrigan, one of the seven Carondelet Sisters who made the hazardous journey from San Diego to Tucson in May of 1870, would make a terrific movie. Over the weekend, an email came in from someone interested in that very idea. The first hurdle will be determining who, if anyone, owns the rights to the content from which the booklet we digitized was made. If anyone owns the rights, it is probably the archive holding the original diary and my guess is the archive at St. Mary's Hospital. If you've not read Sister Monica's diary, click on the image to the left. And feel free to come back to this blog entry and leave a comment with your thoughts.
